Dr. Steven CyrDoctor Steven J. Cyr is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with 20 years of extensive training and experience in the intricate art of Spine Surgery. He received top honors at Southwest Texas State University by graduating Summa Cum Laude and Valedictorian with a Bachelor’s degree in Science of Biology. He was selected for early admittance into medical school where he earned his M.D. from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. After medical school he entered the United States Air Force with an assignment to Wilford Hall Medical Center. He spent two years as a flight surgeon then entered residency training in orthopedic surgery at Wilford Hall.

Following residency, Dr. Cyr was honored with a selection, from among the country’s top residents, as the only fellow for the highly competitive and prestigious combined Orthopedic and Neurosurgical spine surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Mayo Clinic’s training program has consistently ranked number one for orthopedic and neurosurgical training programs in America for more than 20 years. Anyone fortunate enough to know Dr. Cyr will tell you that he is a man driven for quality and excellence.

After completing his spine fellowship he returned to San Antonio and served the military as the Chief of Air Force Spine Surgery and Spine Surgery consultant to the Surgeon General of the Air Force and Pentagon. As a professor of surgery, Dr. Cyr educated orthopedic surgery residents, physician assistant fellows, medical students at Wilford Hall and the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences for six years.

Never one to settle, Dr. Cyr then became the world’s first fellowship trained Orthopedic and cosmetic surgeon. Although he specializes in complex conditions of the musculoskeletal system, he was inspired to enhance his surgical skills even further. His precision and vast experience was one of many reasons his patients requested Dr. Cyr to consider additional procedures; such as tummy tucks and liposuction, while performing anterior surgeries on the spine.

However, to provide the highest quality results, he sought formal cosmetic surgery fellowship training and completed a formal 2-year fellowship with the President of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. He has had a life-long interest in cosmetic results, whether performing spine surgery or cosmetic surgery, Dr. Cyr has focused on achieving the most cosmetically pleasing results. The thought process behind closing up wounds was always to make sure that it was still aesthetically and cosmetically pleasing. His orthopedic background further enhanced his ability to perform anatomically accurate sculpting of the body and extremities.
